Student road safety campaign to launch

August 30, 2016

Police will launch a citywide campaign to promote road safety messages to children and students to tie in with the start of the new school year.

During the three-day campaign, Police will take stringent enforcement action against undesirable driving behaviour that endangers students getting on or off school buses.

Officers will distribute leaflets to school bus drivers, teachers and parents to draw their attention to road safety and organise road safety school talks.

In the first seven months of the year there were 16 traffic accidents involving school buses or nanny vans in which 43 youngsters were injured.

There were 20 accidents and 71 injuries in the same period last year.
