No mistakes made: Stephen Lo

August 17, 2016

Withdrawing charges does not mean that any parties in the case have made any mistakes, Commissioner of Police Stephen Lo said today.

Mr Lo was referring to a case in which four people from an environmental group were arrested for “possessing weapons” and were suspected to have links to the Mong Kok riot in February. Police released them unconditionally yesterday.

Mr Lo said officers had reasonable suspicions after searching the concerned premises, so they made the arrest.

Police then sought advice from the Department of Justice, but the department thought the chance of securing a conviction was low after assessing the evidence, so they decided not to press charges, he added.

Mr Lo said Police have standard procedures to handle complaints if the arrested persons are not satisfied with the way they were treated.
