Secretary for Security TK Lai says Hong Kong’s law and order situation in the first four months of the year was satisfactory, with a 13.8% drop in total crime cases compared to the same period last year.
Speaking to reporters after the Fight Crime Committee meeting today, Mr Lai said the total number of crimes for the period dropped by over 3,000 to 19,300 cases.
Decreases were recorded in violent crime, theft, deception and criminal damage cases. However, there were increases in cases of domestic violence, triad-related crime and robbery.
While the number of robbery cases grew by over 30%, most did not involve the use of weapons, Mr Lai said. However, Police will step up patrols and enhance publicity to deal with the situation.
