Secretary for Security TK Lai met Secretary of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee Peng Qinghua in Guangxi this morning.
He thanked Guangxi authorities for working with the Hong Kong Police to fight human-smuggling activities, in collaboration with law-enforcement agencies in Guangdong, Yunnan and Xinjiang and other provinces.
Thousands of non-ethnic Chinese illegal immigrants on the Mainland and over 140 members of human smuggling syndicates have been arrested.
Mr Lai later visited the Nanning Public Security Bureau SWAT Team and met Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Vice Chairman Huang Ribo.
He then went to Guangzhou to meet officials from the Guangzhou General Station of Exit & Entry Frontier Inspection, and inspected immigration control arrangements at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
Mr Lai also attended a meeting on combating the smuggling of illegal immigrants, with officials from the Ministry of Public Security, Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, Public Security Frontier Corps of Guangdong, and the Shenzhen General Station of Exit & Entry Frontier Inspection.
All parties agreed to continue co-operation to combat human trafficking.
