Police have arrested 44 people, including 32 non-Chinese, after shutting down a syndicate that smuggled illegal immigrants to Hong Kong via the Mainland.
Officers also seized $100,000 and motorised sampans in raids on 20 locations throughout Hong Kong since March 18.
They arrested 12 core members of the syndicate, in the joint operation with Guangdong police.
Investigators believe people in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh paid the syndicate to bring them to the Mainland legally before smuggling them into Hong Kong.
