Chief Secretary Carrie Lam visited Lai King Correctional Institution and Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today to inspect the Correctional Services Department's custody and rehabilitation work.
After a briefing by Commissioner of Correctional Services Yau Chi-chiu, Mrs Lam was served lunch by Lai King Correctional Institution inmates undergoing food and beverage industry training, and toured its classrooms and training rooms.
She then visited Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre to view its low-radiation X-ray body scanner used to detect and prevent drug smuggling. She also visited day rooms and dormitories.
Lai King is a minimum security multi-function institution for young women aged 14 to 21, while Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre is a maximum security facility for male adult remands and convicted persons aged over 21.
Mrs Lam praised the department for providing a safe and secure custodial environment and suitable rehabilitation, as well as promoting community education.
