Commissioner of Police Stephen Lo has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) Alfred Chau to head a committee to review the Force’s equipment, weapons, tactics, command and communications during the Mong Kok riot on February 8 and 9.
Mr Lo told reporters today that officers’ safety is of paramount importance when planning operations and again condemned the rioters for resorting to violence.
He said Police will take resolute action and use necessary force against mobs and that a comprehensive investigation into the mobs would be conducted afterwards.
Mr Lo praised officers’ bravery during the riot, particularly a traffic officer who used his firearm to protect a colleague from further harm.
He also urged people to come forward with information on the incident to the Police.
