3 arrested for renovation fraud

February 01, 2016

Customs officers have arrested three people for applying false trade descriptions.

The Customs & Excise Department recently received complaints against a company which offered a set of quotations with unclear and misleading information at a very competitive price of $170,000, leading the complainant to hire it for renovation services.

After the work started a further eight quotations amounting to $610,000 were sent to the complainant.

Two men and a woman, aged 46 to 47, were arrested and released on bail.

The department reminded the trade to provide material information in a comprehensive, clear, intelligible and timely manner when selling interior design and renovation services.

Consumers should be prudent in selecting services.
