Director of Fire Services Lai Man-hin has expressed profound sadness at the passing of former Director of Fire Services Tsang Kwong-yu, and offered deepest condolences to his family on behalf of department colleagues.

Mr Tsang had served the department for 37 years. He joined the Government as an Assistant Station Officer in March 1964. He was promoted to Chief Fire Officer in July 1992 and to Deputy Director of Fire Services in October 1995. He was appointed Director of Fire Services in November 1998 and retired in January 2001. 

He had rendered significant contribution to the advancement of fire services and fire engineering over the years, the department said, adding that it has also offered any assistance necessary to Mr Tsang's family.
