Police today urged people to call 999 in emergencies only, as misuse delays the handling of genuine emergencies and endangers the lives of people at risk.
Police Regional Command & Control Centres received more than 2.32 million calls last year, of which only 55.5% were genuine. The rest were nuisance calls or misdialled.
People are advised to seek assistance from police stations as officers can promptly handle most crime reports and non-emergency requests.
