Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen will study the court ruling on the Lamma ferry tragedy to consider whether an appeal should be lodged.
The coxswains of both vessels were jailed for their roles in the 2012 collision in which 39 people were killed. After the ruling, several of the victims' relatives expressed concern over the sentences imposed.
Mr Yuen told reporters today he cannot comment on the sentences as the Government has yet to decide on whether to lodge an appeal.
He also noted the Director of Public Prosecutions will decide on whether to press charges against any government officials involved in the incident by the end of this month.
