Stanley Prison stages drama

Theatrical treat

Theatrical treat:  Stanley Prison amateur actors stage a drama they produced themselves.

The Correctional Services Department staged a drama and music performance today by those serving long-term or life sentences at Stanley Prison in front of more than 300 secondary school students and their teachers.

Aside from performing, the offenders also spoke about life behind bars.

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam also watched the production. Addressing the event, she said the most valuable part of the performance was the influence it could have on people's lives.

She noted that despite having broken the law, people in custody could still move forward to create art and contribute to society, if they were determined to change.

Mrs Lam also expressed hope that the performers could reflect the truth of life and that the audience could find inspiration in the message.

She added that the collaboration between the department and various organisations not only helps promote offender rehabilitation and community education, but also complements the Government's policy highlights on youth development.
