Heoric sacrifice:  The late Principal Fireman Mr Leung Kwok-kei.

Director of Fire Services Lai Man-hin has expressed his sadness at the death of Principal Fireman Leung Kwok-kei.

 

The officer sustained serious head injuries in an explosion that occurred during a gas leak at Shek Kip Mei Estate on November 22.

 

He died about 6.45pm today at Princess Margaret Hospital.

 

Mr Lai said: "I am profoundly grieved at the loss of this brave officer. All our colleagues are saddened by the loss of Mr Leung. I have, on behalf of all our colleagues, offered the deepest condolences to Mr Leung's family.

 

"Our Welfare Officer is closely liaising with Mr Leung's family and will render our utmost assistance to help them through this sad and difficult time. The Fire Services Department will set up a funeral committee to make arrangements for Mr Leung's funeral."

 

Secretary for Security TK Lai and Secretary for the Civil Service Paul Tang also sent their condolences to Mr Leung's family.

 

Aged 49, he joined the Fire Services Department in 1985 and was promoted to Senior Fireman in 2000. His last post was at Mong Kok Fire Station where he had served since his promotion to Principal Fireman in 2011.

 

He is survived by his wife and a 17-year-old daughter.

 

Mr Lai wished the eight other firemen injured in the same incident a speedy recovery.
