Boosting ties

Boosting ties:  Commissioner of Customs & Excise Clement Cheung and Australian Customs & Border Protection Service Chief Executive Officer Roman Quaedvlieg sign the revised Customs Co-operative Arrangement on November 27.

Commissioner of Customs & Excise Clement Cheung has led a delegation to two high-level bilateral conferences in New Zealand and Australia to strengthen collaboration between the authorities.

Having met with New Zealand Customs Service officials in Auckland on November 25 and Australian Customs & Border Protection Service officials in Canberra today, Mr Cheung reached agreements with both authorities to strengthen mutual support to combat transnational crimes, particularly drug trafficking activities and emerging challenges brought about by e-commerce.

In addition to enhancing their enforcement partnership, New Zealand and Australian customs authorities also placed great importance on trade facilitation with Hong Kong through mutual recognition of the respective supply chain security programmes.

During his stay in Australia, Mr Cheung also met Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin to discuss a strategic approach towards narcotics enforcement.
