Gov't websites resist hackers

October 22, 2014

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So said recent hacker attacks have not caused a significant impact on e-Government services. Government network systems and websites have not been compromised or defaced.

Mr So told legislators today that a hacker group had recently attacked some Government websites, causing them to run slow by significantly increasing their traffic.

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer blocked the intrusion and got the websites to run normally again.

Police are still investigating the cases. The attacks originated from within Hong Kong and from other regions.

Although other local websites have also come under cyber attack, no significant impact on Hong Kong's economic activities was caused.
