Troublemakers intentionally charged Police

October 18, 2014

Protesters in Mong Kok broke the law and breached public order, Secretary for Security TK Lai says, adding some troublemakers from radical organisations led protesters to charge the Police, and have been organising, coordinating and commanding actions against the Police.

Speaking to the media today, Mr Lai said yesterday morning Police cleared roadblocks and reopened most roads in the Mong Kok area, a move the general public welcomed.

Protesters regrouped in the afternoon, however, and called for reinforcement through the Internet, asking people to assemble unlawfully and block roads again.

Some leading activists charged Police cordon lines intentionally and blocked roads again. They even stopped Police officers and vehicles from leaving the area.

Mr Lai said these actions are definitely not peaceful protests and caused extreme chaos. He strongly condemned these actions.

He also urged protesters to leave as soon as possible, while other people should not go to Mong Kok or other areas where there is unlawful assembly.
