August 17, 2014

A public meeting and procession today from Victoria Park to Central were generally conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, the Police said.

In a statement, the Police stressed that it respects people's freedoms of expression, speech and assembly, and it will always handle public meetings, processions and demonstrations in a fair, just and impartial manner.

The Police received several incident reports in the course of the event, including complaints of assault, criminal damage and a person throwing eggs.

Four men aged 36 to 58 were arrested to ensure public safety.

The Police reiterated that its policy is to facilitate all lawful and peaceful public events while ensuring public safety and public order.

The statement urged people to express their views in a lawful manner that maintains social order.
