Commissioner of Customs & Excise Clement Cheung has led a delegation to the annual review meeting with the General Administration of Customs in Beijing.
It was the 14th annual meeting between the Hong Kong and China Customs since the signing of the Customs Co-operative Arrangement in 2000.
The meeting reviewed the co-operation between the two sides on trade facilitation, anti-smuggling, anti-narcotics, and staff training last year, and mapped out a co-operation plan for the coming year.
The two sides identified areas for more co-operation, including training and exchange, expediting customs clearance and electronic customs seals to improve clearance efficiency.
They also agreed to reinforce intelligence exchange and conduct joint operations to combat smuggling activities, and strengthen co-operation on control measures over the Rules of Origin under the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement.
