Alert issued on bogus emails

The Monetary Authority has issued an alert on fraudulent emails purporting to be related to Bank of China (Hong Kong) and Standard Chartered Bank.

 

The email asks customers to use an embedded hyperlink to connect to a fraudulent website, and provide personal information such as their Hong Kong Identity Card number and credit card information.

 

The banks have clarified that they have not sent these emails and have no connection with the fraudulent website.

 

Anyone who has provided personal information to the website, or has conducted any financial transactions through it, should call Bank of China at 2214 3417, Standard Chartered Bank at 2886 8868, or Police at 2860 5012.
