Violence in HK not tolerated

March 02, 2014

The Government is concerned about the attack on MediaNet Resources Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lau, and will not tolerate any violence, it said in response to today's procession the Press Coalition Against Violence organised.

The Police are conducting an in-depth and thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice as soon as possible.

The Government reiterated that Hong Kong is a law-abiding society which will not tolerate any violence, and strongly condemned the savage act.

The Government attaches great importance to and will safeguard Hong Kong's freedom of the press and freedom of speech. They are major elements in Hong Kong's status as an international metropolis and its continuous development.

Police Hong Kong Island Regional Commander Li Kin-fai also said the Police would not tolerate any violence. He said the Police, the media and members of the public shared the same goal: to apprehend the culprits.

He appeals to anyone with information to offer to call 9255 4063 as soon as possible.
