Gov’t eyes progress in hostage incident
October 30, 2013
Secretary for Security TK Lai says the Government will assist in handling the Manila hostage-taking incident follow-up by understanding the contents of the dialogue between the Philippine side and the victims' and bereaved families' representative.
Speaking to reporters today, Mr Lai said Manila City Councillor Bernardito Ang had met with the Security Bureau and a representative for the victims and bereaved families after he arrived in Hong Kong.
The Government hoped the two sides could maintain contact to better understand each other’s positions and move the matter forward, he said, adding the incident should be handled pragmatically as the meeting took place only after a long time.
"After three years, we now see that a meeting took place. This is only a start. We do hope that progress can be seen."
