Alert issued on bogus email

May 02, 2013
The Monetary Authority today issued an alert on a fraudulent email purporting to be sent from China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation.

It asks customers to use an embedded hyperlink to connect to a fraudulent website and verify their account information by entering their Internet banking account's user name and password. The fake site looks similar to the bank's Internet banking logon webpage.

The bank says it has not sent these emails to its customers, and has no connection with the fraudulent site. It also does not have a policy of sending emails asking its customers to provide their passwords or verify their account information online.

The bank has reported the case to Police. Anyone who has provided personal information to the site, or conducted any financial transactions through it should contact the bank at 2779 5533, or Police at 2860 5012.
