WSD sorry for traffic problems
March 08, 2012
The Water Supplies Department has issued a public apology over a fire in the Lion Rock Tunnel today, which caused road closures and traffic congestion.
The fire broke out at about 3am when workers were applying non-inflammable protective materials to the outer shell of the water mains beneath the tunnel's south-bound carriageway.
Thirty-five workers were evacuated. No one was injured.
The fire was largely put out by 12.30pm.
The department is investigating the cause of fire.
