Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan has inspected the new two-way toll collection arrangement at the Lantau Link Main Toll Plaza.
The arrangement came into operation yesterday, converting the round-trip toll system to one which charges in both directions.
Noting the traffic congestion to the airport this morning, Mr Chan said the Transport Department took immediate action to remedy the situation.
Acting Commissioner for Transport Macella Lee told reporters the department opened two more manual toll collection lanes which helped traffic to flow as normal.
"The traffic flow this morning was similar to (the situation of) all other days. It is within our estimation.
"There is some scope for improvement. For example, the way the barriers are put and also the traffic signs for the motorists can also be improved.
"I hope that with more time, motorists are more familiar with the arrangement."
