Shing Mun Tunnels to accept e-payment

July 14, 2017
Cashless convenience

Cashless convenience:  The Shing Mun Tunnels will accept e-payment from July 23.

Motorists will be able to use contactless smart cards as an alternative payment method at the Shing Mun Tunnels from July 23.

Located at the tunnels' manual toll booths, the "stop-and-go" e-payment facilities will support Octopus, Visa PayWave, Mastercard Contactless and UnionPay QuickPass cards.

The Transport Department said the smart toll collection system will give convenience to motorists, adding they can pay in cash if their e-payments fail.

The e-payment service will be introduced in phases at seven more government tolled tunnels and roads including the Aberdeen, Cross Harbour, Tseung Kwan O and Lion Rock tunnels, and the Lantau Link, Tsing Sha Highway and Eastern Harbour Crossing.
