The Civil Engineering & Development Department today launched a two-month public consultation on the proposal to build an automated people mover and monorail to boost connectivity in Kowloon East.
The department conducted a public consultation exercise for the Feasibility Study for an Environmentally Friendly Linkage System for Kowloon East from 2012 to 2014.
While the public generally supported the use of an environmentally friendly linkage system to facilitate the transformation of Kowloon East into another major business district, there were diverse views on the proposed 9km elevated monorail system with 12 stations.
Concerns were raised about its alignment and coverage, as well as its impact on the Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter.
The department launched a detailed feasibility study in 2015 to garner public concerns and develop the proposal.
The completed first-stage detailed feasibility study concluded the automated people mover and the monorail were the most suitable elevated transport modes to enhance the connectivity of Kowloon East.
The department launched the public consultation for the second stage of the study today, inviting proposals on the linkage system's alignment, coverage and impact on the Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter.
Various statutory bodies, professional institutions, transport operators and concern groups will be consulted while a public forum will be held on May 27.
Interested people can submit their views by July 2.
