Smart city study launched

November 07, 2016

The Energising Kowloon East Office today launched the first stage of a public engagement exercise for a feasibility study on developing Kowloon East into a smart city district.

The plan to use Kowloon East as a pilot area to explore the feasibility of a smart city was announced in the 2015 Policy Address.

The study will cover formulating a smart city framework and advocacy statement, and smart city initiatives and strategy, with a view to developing the district into a smart, sustainable and liveable community while transforming it into another core business district for Hong Kong.

During stage one of the exercise, the office will collect public views on the proposed framework and advocacy statement, as well as solicit ideas for proof of concept trials of innovative solutions.

It will also consult District Councils, stakeholders including the information technology sector, professional and research institutes, and the public.

A Smart City Week, which includes a smart city exhibition, a roving exhibition, focus group meetings and a community workshop, is being held until November 13.

Stage two of the public engagement exercise will be conducted in mid-2017.
