29 residential sites to be sold

February 25, 2016

Secretary for Development Paul Chan announced the Government's 2016-17 Land Sale Programme today, comprising 29 residential sites capable of providing 19,200 flats.

It is a record high in flat production capacity since 2010, showing the Government's determination to increase housing land supply, he said.

Eight commercial/business sites and three hotel sites which can provide 536,000 square metres of commercial space and 2,100 rooms, are included.

He estimated the total private housing land supply in the next financial year will produce 28,600 flats, compared to the aggregate supply target of 18,000 flats. These will include supply from Government land sales, railway property developments, Urban Renewal Authority projects and private developments.

In the first quarter of the year the Government will tender seven residential sites - one each in Tsing Yi, Tuen Mun, Sha Tin and Yau Tong, and three in Tai Po. They, together with other private housing land sources, will supply 4,800 flats.

Mr Chan also gave an overview of the private land supply situation in 2015-16, saying the Government will have put up for sale 15 residential sites, with a capacity to produce 9,260 flats, by the end of the current financial year.

The Government will flexibly respond to changing market conditions and put up additional sites for sale depending on the situation, he added.
