Chief Executive CY Leung welcomes a Massachusetts Institute of Technology initiative to set up an innovation node in Hong Kong as it represents MIT's choice of the city as a key partner for global innovation.
He said the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node will deepen the ties established by MIT and Hong Kong universities in pre-competitive research by bringing together students, academics and entrepreneurs from Boston and Hong Kong to co-create value for both communities.
MIT’s renowned commercialisation programme and capability would also benefit Hong Kong and its cutting-edge technologies will inspire young people and stimulate innovations, he added.
He said the Innovation & Technology Bureau to be set up soon will provide more focused efforts to take forward broad-based collaboration with MIT and to identify further co-operation opportunities both on the Mainland and overseas.
The Chief Executive and his innovation and technology advisor Nick Yang visited MIT in May to exchange views on enhancing co-operation.
