Tainted water probe open, transparent: CS

July 19, 2015

The Government has been open and transparent in handling and investigating the issue of lead found in tap water, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says.

Mrs Lam told reporters today the Government attaches great importance to the problem and officials had met the media to brief them on the progress almost every day.

She stressed that the Government is highly concerned about residents’ needs and had provided the affected residents with clean water at once.

It has also arranged free blood tests for children under six, pregnant women and lactating mothers living in Kai Ching Estate and Kwai Luen Estate Phase 2 after lead was found in water samples collected from the estates.

A commission of inquiry and two task forces have also been set up to look into the cases from different perspectives, she added.
