Road fatalities lowest in 60 years

March 24, 2015

The number of people killed in road traffic accidents last year was 100, the lowest in 60 years.

The Transport Advisory Committee was briefed today on road traffic accident and casualty numbers in 2014.

The total number of road traffic accidents last year fell to 15,790 from 16,089 in 2013, while the total number of casualties dropped from 20,596 to 19,854.

The Government also briefed the committee on the results of its franchised bus services study, which explored ways to improve operational efficiency, service regularity and quality through route rationalisation, enhanced monitoring of the lost trip situation and further implementation of bus priority measures.

Committee chairman Larry Kwok said members agreed the measures could help provide a quality and reliable service to the community, while ensuring the bus sector's long-term and sustainable development.
