Since launching its crackdown on illegal subdivided domestic flats in industrial buildings in 2012, the Buildings Department has issued 72 removal and discontinuance orders, and instigated 27 prosecutions against owners who failed to comply with the orders, up until the end of last year.
The department issued the figures today, urging owners to comply with statutory orders under the Buildings Ordinance requiring the discontinuation of the domestic use of industrial buildings, and the removal of unauthorised building works.
The department said it will take vigorous enforcement actions to ensure public safety.
Last year it increased the number of target buildings in the crackdown, to eradicate subdivided domestic flats in industrial buildings.
Apart from stepping up prosecution against owners who fail to comply with the orders, the department is now applying for closure orders from the District Court and arranging for government contractors to conduct removal orders for irresponsible owners who fail to comply after being prosecuted.
