Gov't determined to provide housing: CE

January 22, 2014

Chief Executive CY Leung says the Government is striving to increase housing supply to meet the needs of both the lower and middle classes.

Mr Leung visited a construction site at the Housing Authority's Shui Chuen O Estate this afternoon. Speaking to the media after the visit, he said the Government has announced a target of building 20,000 public rental units and 8,000 Home Ownership Scheme units each year on average in the next decade.

He said the Shui Chuen O project, providing about 11,000 public rental housing units, is expected to be completed in phases from the second half of this year.

The estate includes community and commercial facilities and a transport interchange, benefiting area residents, he added.

He said the Government needs to find more land to fulfill Hong Kong’s housing needs, and will listen to local people’s views and that of District Councils.
