Resignation will not affect URA works
May 25, 2013
Secretary for Development Paul Chan said Barry Cheung's resignation will not have a significant impact on the Urban Renewal Authority's work in the short term, as its work plan had already been submitted to the Development Bureau.
In a media session today, Mr Chan said an earlier re-appointment decision was based on the consideration that many veteran non-executive members of the previous board would be retiring, while the authority's managing director retired in late February. In view of Cheung's experience in urban renewal, the recommendation also got the Financial Secretary's endorsement.
Mr Chan said the bureau is in the process of identifying a suitable replacement, and the Urban Renewal Strategy's continued effective implementation would continue to be an important factor for consideration.
“When we have identified such a candidate and gone through our internal procedures, we will make the announcement at an appropriate time,” he said.
