New income limits for welfare take effect

April 01, 2017

The latest income and asset limits for the Low-income Working Family Allowance Scheme took effect from today, the Labour & Welfare Bureau announced.

For a two-person household, for example, the income ceiling for full allowances rose from $9,100 to $9,500, while that for a half allowance increased from $10,900 to $11,400. Asset limits rose from $329,000 to $333,000.

Eligible households with two or more members who meet the working hour requirements will receive subsidies up to $1,000 and child allowances per month.

The claim period is the six months preceding the application submission.

Eligible families have to submit an application for every claim period.

For the one-off additional payment proposed in the Budget for the scheme’s recipients, the Working Family Allowance Office will adjust the computer system to arrange for the payment after the passage of the Appropriation Bill 2017.
