The Department of Health today urged people not to consume a slimming product called CA NI Slim BELLANCE, which was found to contain an undeclared poison.
It contains orlistat, which is a Part 1 poison used for treating obesity.
Its side-effects include incontinence, headache and abdominal pain. It can also cause severe liver damage.
Illegal sale or possession of Part 1 poisons and unregistered pharmaceutical products are criminal offences. The maximum penalty for each offence is a fine of $100,000 and two years' jail.
The department said consumers should stop using the product and seek medical help if they feel unwell.
It reminded people to lose weight through exercise and having a balanced diet, adding they should consult a doctor before taking weight-control medication.
