Another Zika case reported

November 15, 2016

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a second imported case of Zika virus infection in Hong Kong and has urged people to adopt strict anti-mosquito measures and to practise safe sex during travel.

The case involves a 56-year-old man who visited New York, Antigua & Barbuda, St Maarten and Anguilla from October 13 to November 8.

He was bitten by mosquitoes in Antigua & Barbuda.

He was put in isolation at North District Hospital after testing positive for Zika today.

Centre for Health Protection Controller Dr Wong Ka-hing said the case will be reported to the World Health Organisation and the national, Guangdong and Macau health authorities.

He reminded pregnant women and those planning pregnancy not to travel to affected areas.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department will conduct mosquito surveys and implement control measures in areas visited by the patient since his return.
