Saving lives:  Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man (centre) opens the Say Yes to Organ Donation campaign with MTR Corporation Chairman Prof Frederick Ma (left) and Permanent Secretary for Food & Health Patrick Nip (right).

Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man launched the Say Yes to Organ Donation promotion campaign today.

Running until December, it will encourage more people to register to donate their organs.

Dr Ko said the number of Central Organ Donation Register registrations has now exceeded 225,000, representing an increase of more than 20,000 over June's figure, which is almost equivalent to the total registration number for last year.

He invited the community to plan more organ donation promotional activities to boost the registration number.

The Department of Health has set up organ donation booths at 15 MTR stations, with healthcare professionals on site to answer enquiries on organ donation and transplantation.

Following the launch ceremony a bus parade travelled across Hong Kong to promote organ donation.

A promotion vehicle will visit 30 locations in 18 districts in November. Promotional booths will be set up again at MTR stations in December.
