Tainted crab batches recalled

October 04, 2016

The Centre for Food Safety today ordered the recall of imported crabs found to contain excessive cadmium.

The centre collected 24 crab samples from the local market for testing and found the level of cadmium in six samples exceeded the legal limit.

The samples were collected at import level and from retail outlets in Mong Kok, Causeway Bay, Lai Chi Kok and Tsuen Wan.

The centre has informed the importers and retailers concerned of the irregularities, and instructed them to stop selling the affected batches.

Consumers can call YATA Supermarket on 2694 3089 and AEON Stores (Hong Kong) on 2165 0384 to enquire about the recall of the products at their outlets.
