The Department of Health will launch the Colorectal Cancer Screening Pilot Programme on September 28.
The three-year programme will subsidise Hong Kong residents born from 1946 to 1955 to undergo screening tests for the prevention of colorectal cancer.
It will be conducted in phases. People born from 1946 to 1948 will be the first batch invited to participate.
Information on the doctors and specialists participating in the programme was released today.
More than 260 doctors have enrolled, and 95% will not charge a co-payment.
Over 90 colonoscopy specialists have joined to provide examinations. If no polyp needs to be removed, co-payment will not be charged in 70% of cases. If polyp removal is needed, co-payment will not be required in 60% of cases.
Co-payments are capped at $1,000.
Enrolled primary care doctors and colonoscopy specialists will display the programme logo at the entrance to their clinics and a poster to show the co-payments charged.
