New senior voucher more flexible

September 25, 2016

The Second Phase of the Pilot Scheme on Community Care Service Voucher for the Elderly will provide more flexibility for seniors in selecting service providers and care services.

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung today gave these remarks on the second phase of the scheme.

It will grow from eight districts to all 18 districts. An additional 1,800 vouchers will be issued, up to 3,000 if the existing 1,200 voucher holders opt for migration to the second phase.

The voucher value will be expanded from one single value to five different values ranging from $3,600 to $8,600.

Mr Cheung added the Social Welfare Department will form a centralised team of social workers to enhance monitoring of recognised service providers and offer support and assistance to voucher holders.

The first phase funded from the Lotteries Fund was launched in September 2013, providing vouchers for seniors to choose service packages in the “money-following-the-user approach”.

Eligible seniors are invited to join the second phase from October 3.
