Clean HK meeting held

September 20, 2016

Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man has held a meeting with District Council Food & Environmental Hygiene Committees chairmen and other government department representatives to discuss cleanliness and hygiene matters.

Briefing the media with Director of Food & Environmental Hygiene Vivian Lau, Dr Ko said in view of the spread of Zika virus in nearby countries and confirmation of four local Dengue fever cases so far this year, the meeting focused on ways to step up co-operation for mosquito control.

He said talks for the public will be arranged at the district level while dissemination of keep Hong Kong clean messages will be strengthened through different channels including the internet and by using the mascot Keep Clean Ambassador Ah Tak.

To step up enforcement on hygiene black spots, the Government will launch a pilot scheme to install CCTVs at places such as alleys where restaurant staff and residents often dump waste illegally, Vivian Lau said.

The footage gathered will help Food & Environmental Hygiene staff to follow-up and plan enforcement action, she added.

The exact locations where CCTVs will be installed will be determined after consulting the District Councils.
