The Centre for Food Safety announced today it has found sulphur dioxide in a fresh beef sample, a preservative not permitted to be used in fresh meat.
The sample was taken from a market stall in Sai Wan Ho.
The centre has informed the stall operator of the irregularity and will follow up on the case.
It reminded traders not to sell fresh or chilled meat containing sulphur dioxide, and encouraged consumers to buy meat from reliable market stalls and fresh provision shops.
