Tainted pork to be destroyed

August 06, 2016

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department will destroy a batch of pigs and pork after the Government Laboratory today confirmed samples taken from some pigs imported from the Mainland contained residues of beta-agonists (Salbutamol).

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department said the affected pigs and meat will be destroyed.

Health inspectors marked and sealed the affected pork at retail outlets yesterday. About two tons of pork was marked and sealed while over a ton was surrendered by retailers.

It will be disposed of tomorrow, while disposal work has already started on the batch of pigs.

Stringent controls will be exercised to ensure pork sold at retail outlets is fit for human consumption, the department said.
