Museums to open for free

July 27, 2016

The permanent exhibitions of five fee-charging museums will be open to the public free from August 1, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced today.

They are the Museum of History, the Heritage Museum, the Museum of Art, the Museum of Coastal Defence and the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum.

The permanent exhibitions of the Science Museum and the Space Museum will be free to full-time students.

To complement the free admission initiative, the prices of annual museum passes will be reduced by 50%, with the revised charges for individual, concessionary and family passes set at $50, $25 and $100.

The admission fees for the Science Museum’s permanent exhibitions will be reduced by 20%, with the revised fees for standard, group and concessionary tickets set at $20, $14 and $10.

The Space Museum’s permanent exhibition halls and the Museum of Art are closed for renovation and will reopen in late 2016 and in 2019.
