The Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee has approved $1.5 million for World Vision Hong Kong to provide non-tangible relief support for earthquake victims in Ecuador.
The grant has been approved for the first time under a pilot scheme to provide non-tangible support to disaster victims, such as post-trauma counselling and other therapy programmes.
The grant will be mainly used to set up child-friendly spaces for organising activities to provide psycho-social support to children and adolescents.
The agency must submit evaluation reports and audited accounts to ensure the money is used properly. The information will also facilitate review of the relief programme.
Together with those approved earlier, the committee has approved $6.202 million in grants for victims of the Ecuador earthquake in April.
