60 oil applications approved

June 28, 2016

The Environmental Protection Department has approved 60 applications for the "Waste Cooking Oils" Recycling Administrative Registration Scheme.

The approved applications comprise 46 collectors, nine processors and five exporters.

The "Waste Cooking Oils" Parties registration lists have been uploaded to the department's website.

Applications for the second batch are open.

The department will monitor the operation of registered parties, including conducting surveillance visits, analysing transaction records and summary documents, and tracing the flow of waste cooking oils from sources to ultimate outlets.

If registered parties violate the requirements stipulated in the Good Practice Guide, the department will issue a warning.

In severe cases the registration of the party concerned will be revoked.

Meanwhile, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department will impose a new licensing condition for the licences of waste cooking oil producers like restaurants and factory canteens requiring them to hand over their waste cooking oils to registered collectors.

A new clause on the same requirement will also be added in the tenancy agreements with tenants engaging in cooked food business in the department’s public markets.
