The Social Welfare Department has been enhancing surveillance, inspection and monitoring of private elderly homes.
Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung told reporters today the department will also help operators of private elderly homes enhance their staff training and management skills.
He said: "We will step up inspection, we will be enhancing the staffing and also the monitoring system as well. Transparency and accountability will certainly be up on our agenda.
"It will take a bit of time but the department has got long-term, medium-term and short-term plans to achieve its major strategy of lifting the whole standard of elderly homes and also to instil confidence in the minds of users."
