Beijing reports first Zika case

May 16, 2016

The Centre for Health Protection received notification today of the first imported Zika virus infection case in Beijing involving a 29-year-old woman.

The patient is from Yantai, Shandong. She travelled to Venezuela in April and developed a fever and skin rash on May 11.

She returned to Beijing on May 14 and was hospitalised for management. She is in a stable condition.

To date, 18 imported Zika cases have been notified on the Mainland.

The centre urged the public to adopt strict anti-mosquito measures during travel. Pregnant women and those planning pregnancy should avoid travel to the affected areas.
