Bun race set for May 14

May 10, 2016

The annual Cheung Chau Bun Scrambling Competition will be held on May 14, with 12 climbers competing in the final to climb the bun tower in the quickest time.

The event, held at Pak Tai Temple Playground, is a famous Hong Kong tradition and one of the highlights of the Cheung Chau Jiao Festival.

Contestants climb the tower and snatch as many buns as they can. The climber with the highest score wins.

The "Grand Award" is being introduced this year and will be presented to any winner who has won the champion title three times in either the men’s or women’s event. They will be crowned "King of kings" or "Queen of queens".

A special prize, "Full Pockets of Lucky Buns" will be awarded again this year to the participant who bags the most buns.

Admission tickets will be distributed at Pak She First Lane, next to Cheung Chau Fire Station, and along Ping Chong Road from 10pm on May 14. Tickets are limited to 1,650.
